Stonegate recognized by the Michigan Outdoor Writers Association. The Michigan Outdoors Writers Association is an organization of more the 200 outdoor writers and other outdoor professionals. Stonegate Community and Golf Club was one of the top nominees for the 2009 Clean Waters Award, recognizing the organization’s commitment to preserving, protecting and enhancing the watersheds of Lake Michigan, Lake Superior and Lake Huron basins. The association noted that: Stonegate Golf Club superintendent Jeff Knowlton, who has taken extraordinary measures to insure that development of the course in Twin Lake, Mich., will not take place at the expense of Cedar Creek, an exceptional trout stream that adjoins the course. Knowlton has done this through a long list of practices that protect the surface water and groundwater.”

Stonegate News. August 24, 2009. The Award Winning Energy Star Home located on Hole # 6, earned the best energy efficient rating ( 5 stars plus) given out by Energy Star for both Efficiency and Pollution Prevention. The Uniform Energy Rating System used starts at 500 (worst entry level rating) to 35 (best rating). Stonegate’s home earned a 41 rating. What all this means is clean saved energy costs to homeowner.

Greens rolled fast and true at this years Stonegate Men’s Invitational (Member/Guest.) Sunny skies and great friends came out to play in the 2 man best ball event. This year’s low gross winners were team Scott Knowlton and Brent McCarthy. The low net winners were team Tony Cooper and Jerry Anderson. The afternoon provided fun filled golf topped off with some fine dining at the Stonegate Grille. August 23 is the date for this years Stonegate Women’s Invitational.

Stonegate Community and Golf Club 2009 Homes on Parade a success Sunday July 12, 2009. Stonegate held a community open house. The weather was perfect, sunny and mid 70’s. Folks had a chance to get personal tours of the golf course and tour the homes and condos that are for sale. After enjoying the tour, Stonegate treated all to lunch and golf clinics. Some of the residents reported as many as 60 groups touring the homes Sunday afternoon.

Golf notes: Stonegate hosts top juniors in USGA qualifier

Stonegate Golf Club got to showcase its course to some of the top junior players in the country.

The course in Twin Lake hosted a USGA junior amateur national qualifier on Monday.

The two qualifying spots for the national tourney went to Albin Choi of Toronto and Tyler Manning of Novi. Choi shot back-to-back 70s to best the 36-player field by nine shots. Manning was second.

Local players in the field were Reed Hrynewich (75-79), JJ Szmadzinski (79-78) and Derek Thornberry (78-80).

Players used the back tees and the course setup was nearly 6,800 yards, according to Stonegate club pro Ryan Cutter.

"Actually, I thought the scores were really impressive," Cutter said. "There was a two-club wind all day long and the last six holes the kids had to play through a little rain. It was not the best of weather."

Cutter said his staff got good feedback from the players and the course would consider hosting a similar event in the future.
